November was a busy month filled with homework, classes, service site, and various travelling experiences. Since I went to Scotland with Bailey earlier in November I have travelled to Norway and Amsterdam.
Norway was an incredibly fun trip. We road tripped around the center of the country visiting several fjords, multiple towns, waterfalls, drove through the world’s longest tunnel succeeding one in Switzerland (24.51 km long) and visited two stave churches. We even got to see two moose cross the road in front of the car. I almost cried with tears of excitement!!! Stave churches are completely wooden churches designed and built by the vikings thanks to their boat and home construction skills. We visited the Uvdal Stave Church built at the end of the 12th century and the Heddal Stave Church built in the 1200s and is the largest Stave Church in Norway. We also travelled through Flam and Voss and got to experience the majestic and inspiring fjords: Aurlandsfjorden and Eidfjord. Norway was beautiful and was filled with great memories like singing “I would walk 500 miles,” listening to some strange holiday music, riding in our little hybrid car for 600 miles and astonishing views around every curve.

The next weekend I travelled to Amsterdam and met up with a few of my besties from E&H for Thanksgiving weekend and to celebrate Jessica and Sara’s birthdays. On Friday Jessica, Sara and I ate dutch pancakes, stood on top of the science museum, visited the Maritime Museum, ventured onto a replica VOC ship, a craft brewery under a windmill and explored the city! Then on Saturday we met up with Bailey, Casey and Madeline (Bailey’s flatmate) went on a canal cruise, toured the Anne Frank house and even played with cats that are up for adoption on a cat house boat on a canal. In the evening we toured the Red Light District and went ice skating. Fun fact: Emily does not know how to ice skate, but Jessica Sara and Casey helped me learn and now I want to be an ice skater! On Sunday we ate more dutch pancakes, toured a cheese museum and found the large yellow shoe. Amsterdam was an amazing place that I really enjoyed and loved getting to explore with some amazing people.
I learned a few things while travelling to both Norway and Amsterdam. One is that I LOVE travelling and going to new places. I would be content if I could go everywhere. Meeting new people in new places is also incredibly fun. Most importantly the people you travel with are also what makes travelling so exhilarating. Friends are amazing and deal with all of your craziness, hangriness, things you say, silly dancing, and overexcitement. True friends and the people you surround yourself with are what make experiences truly great.
